The pain is real. The scan being clean does not change that.
Start with what you already know. You have rested it. You have stretched it. You have probably had imaging, and someone may have told you it looked fine, which felt less like good news than it should have. None of that means you invented this.
Here is what is usually going on. Tissue heals on a fairly predictable timeline, measured in weeks to a few months depending on what it is. When pain carries on well past that, the original tissue damage is often no longer the main driver. Three other things are. The nervous system gets better at what it practises, and a system that has been signalling danger for a long time turns the volume up, so movements that used to be unremarkable now register as threatening. The body guards, which means muscles hold on, joints stop moving through full range, and you move differently without deciding to. And capacity falls, because when you avoid loading something for months it genuinely gets weaker, so less and less provokes it.
That is not a life sentence. It is a description of a system that adapted in an unhelpful direction, and systems that adapted can adapt back. That is the whole premise of the work we do here.
If several of these are familiar, you are in the right place.
Chronic pain behaves differently from a fresh injury, which is exactly why the advice that works for a fresh injury has not worked for you.
Months, Not Weeks
Pain that has outlasted the healing time of whatever started it, often measured in years rather than months by the time people come in.
Flare-Ups Out Of Nowhere
Bad days that do not line up with what you did. Two people can do the same thing and only one of them pays for it three days later.
Stiff After Sitting Still
Rest stopped helping a long time ago. You seize up in the car, at your desk, and first thing in the morning.
Pain That Spreads
What started in one spot now covers a wider area, or the other side has started up too. Common in long-standing pain, and not a sign you are falling apart.
Hesitating Before You Move
You have learned which movements cost you, so you stopped doing them. Reasonable. It is also part of what keeps the cycle running, and it is workable.
Broken Sleep
Pain wakes you or keeps you from settling, and everything hurts more on no sleep. Sleep and pain feed each other in both directions.
Graded, hands-on, and built at the pace your body will accept.
The first thing that happens is that somebody listens. A full one-on-one evaluation with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and we want the whole history: when it started, what has been tried, what makes a good week and what makes a bad one, and what you have quietly stopped doing because of it. That history is diagnostic. It is also the part that usually gets skipped.
Then we work on two fronts at once. Hands-on treatment gives the system an immediate reason to turn the volume down, restores the range you have lost to guarding, and gets you moving with less protection. And we load you, deliberately, at a level your body can currently handle, and then we add to it. Slowly enough that we are not chasing flare-ups, steadily enough that your capacity actually climbs. Flare-ups still happen, and we plan for them instead of treating them as failure. What we will not do is promise you a timeline or a cure. What we will do is tell you honestly at the evaluation what we think is driving it and what we think it will take.
