Not acupuncture. Different theory, different target.
Dry needling is a western, anatomy-based technique. A thin monofilament needle goes into a myofascial trigger point, the taut and irritable band inside a muscle, and often draws a local twitch response. That twitch is the band letting go.
Acupuncture works off meridian theory. Dry needling works off your exam. We needle the muscle we found on palpation, in the pattern that reproduces your symptoms, and nothing else. It is the most direct route to a deep trigger point that pressure and stretching keep sliding past.
Quick, specific, and over before you brace for it.
We Find The Trigger Point
Hands first. Your therapist palpates until the taut band reproduces the pain you came in with, including any referral you feel somewhere else. That spot is the target.
The Needle Goes In
A thin sterile monofilament needle, far finer than the ones used for shots. You may feel a deep ache or a brief involuntary twitch. That twitch is the response we are after, and it passes in a second.
Then You Move
We take the released muscle straight through range and put load on it. Needling changes the tissue. Movement is what tells your nervous system to keep the change.
