An adjustment is a tool, not a treatment plan.
Spinal manipulation is a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust applied to one spinal segment at the end of its available range. The pop you hear is cavitation, gas coming out of solution inside the joint. It is not a bone going back into place, and the sound is not the point.
What the thrust actually does is neurological. It sends a burst of input from the joint and the tissue around it that turns pain down and drops the muscle guarding, which opens a window where you can move and load in ways you could not five minutes earlier. Physical therapists in Texas are trained and licensed to perform it, and two of our three clinicians are Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapists through the Manual Therapy Institute.
What happens before, during and after the thrust.
We Screen You First
History, a neurological screen and segment-by-segment testing. Manipulation is not appropriate for every spine or every presentation, and finding that out is part of the evaluation, not an afterthought.
One Segment, One Thrust
You get positioned so the force lands where it is needed and nowhere else. The thrust itself is short and fast. Most people say it was less dramatic than they had braced for.
Move While The Window Is Open
The relief after a manipulation is real, and on its own it is temporary. We use that window straight away for range of motion and loading, so the segment learns to hold its own motion.
What our patients say.
"After dealing with severe lower back pain and reduced mobility for over a month, I went to The Complete Athlete Performance Therapy, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made."Luis R. · Google Review
